Info concerning UNF forensic studies, registering in a technical training program, and taking free tests online. Which college degrees offer you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? If you complete the forensic studies program, for example, there are a variety of specializations that may appeal to you, such as medical assisting or occupational rehabilitation. Further, due to advances in medical systems, there is a growing skill-shortage of graduates from forensic studies programs, and nursing professionals in general.

Medical laboratory technologists and lab technicians collect samples and perform tests to analyze body fluids, tissue, and other substances. An entry-level job for lab technologists usually requires a bachelors degree in medical technology or life sciences. Medical lab technicians (lab techs), on the other hand, need only an accredited associate's degree program in clinical laboratory science. Coursework emphasizes laboratory skills, including safety procedures and lab management. Medical laboratory technologists and technicians can obtain a general certification as a medical laboratory technologist or technician, respectively, or a certification in a specialty, such as cytotechnology or medical biology. For credentialing information, visit the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.

Employment of medical lab techs is projected to grow 16% in the coming years. An increase in the aging population is expected to lead to a greater need to diagnose medical conditions, such as cancer or type II diabetes. Average salary for medical and clinical laboratory technologists and technicians was $50,550 in May 2015, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Medical Training Programs

UNF forensic studies
Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research, or blood donations. Phlebotomy programs are available from community colleges, vocational schools, or technical schools. These programs usually take less than 1 year to complete, including classes in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and laboratory work, and lead to a certificate or diploma.

Further, phlebotomists must learn specific procedures on how to identify, label, and track blood samples. The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the American Medical Technologists (AMT) offer Phlebotomy Technician certifications. The average annual salary for phlebotomists was $31,630 in May 2015, and employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 25 percent over the next 10 years.
